Unmade // Ilaria Gasparroni
Curated by Livia Savorelli // September 22, 2020 – January 29, 2021
Meeting with the artist Ilaria Gasparroni and the curator Livia Savorelli: Friday 25 September from 2pm to 9pm. In compliance with current regulations, entry to the exhibition will be restricted to small groups. Appointments are welcome.
The exhibition season of Gagliardi and Domke Contemporary in Turin opens with UNMADE by Ilaria Gasparroni (1989), winner of the Gagliardi E Domke Special Prize awarded on the occasion of Arteam Cup 2019. The solo exhibition, curated by Livia Savorelli, will be held from 22 September to 23 October 2020, with a special preview from 22 to 25 September, in which the exhibition will be open continuously from 2pm to 9pm. On 25 September, at the same time, the artist and the curator will accompany small groups, in compliance with current regulations, on a guided tour of the exhibition.
As recently declared by the artist – in the interview by Tommaso Evangelista which accompanies the text by the curator Livia Savorelli, in the Vanillaedizioni monographic catalog which will be released during the exhibition – «The title of the exhibition is UNMADE (incomplete, unmade) and corresponds to the vision of the today’s man who lives in a chaotic and valueless reality, who acts with the sole prospect of destroying all the beautiful things around us such as nature, the cosmos and the human being himself; it becomes essential to go back in memory to the memories of our childhood and thus rediscover our purity».
The young sculptor from Abruzzo, who has chosen marble as her material of choice since the beginning of her artistic activity, presents five new installations specifically designed for the spaces of the Turin gallery on the occasion of her solo exhibition.
Five new works, some created in full lockdown, which reflect the inadequacy of a way of experiencing the beauty of the world and the inability of men to activate those simple and fundamental mechanisms aimed at safeguarding it. Five narratives – a hymn to life and care for everything that surrounds us – which unfold on the ideal stage of the gallery where the actors are the spectators themselves. In fact, Gasparroni invites you to immerse yourself in them, tickling your own memory and experience and letting yourself be guided by the emotions generated by contemplation.
An invitation to listen, to oneself and to others, in a renewed – more fundamental than ever – balance between Humanity and Nature, always remembering to be guests and not masters.
